 Where: West Vancouver Seniors' Activity Centre, Arts Studio

The workshop will start with a group critique. Each participant is invited to bring two paintings for feedback- any subject or medium.

There will be a step by step demo of one, possibly two still life images, plus lots of one to one coaching. Participants have the choice to paint from their own references or use the same reference as the instructor.

Technical skills demonstrated will be blocking in, layering and glazing, colour mixing, texture, wet in wet, positive and negative painting. 

Supplies

Bring your usual painting supplies: paints, synthetic brushes, palette, spray bottle, apron, paper towels, and whatever canvases (three) you would like to work on- minimum size 11 x 14, up to 24 x 30”.

Medium- Janice uses Acrylic Glazing fluid by Golden- slows the drying of the paint. 

Janice’s paint colours- these are suggested only; bring what you have.

Artist Biography

Janice Robertson was born on Vancouver Island in 1952, into a family with a long history of women artists. She lives in the historic village of Fort Langley, BC. 

Janice launched her career as a professional artist in 1989. She has received many awards including the Foreign Award in the Houston Watercolor Society’s Exhibition in Texas in 2004, the William and Margaret Foley Award in the Adirondacks National Exhibition of Watercolors in 2008, and she has won the Bronze Medal three times in the Federation of Canadian Artists Annual Signature Members exhibition. 

Janice is a signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Landscape Artists International and the Northwest Watercolor Society. She was elected as an Artist in Residence at the annual Painters at Painters event in Campbell River BC in 2004. Janice served as President of the Federation of Canadian Artists from 1999 to 2001. She is listed in Who’s Who in Canada and her paintings are in collections throughout the world. 

She is also a popular and well- respected workshop instructor, and has written two instructional books on acrylic painting techniques. 

Janice’s work is largely a reflection of her abiding love for the beauty of the west coast forests and beaches that she has known all her life. Her attachment to her home and garden are represented in her still- life paintings. She works in acrylic, watercolour and oil.

Parking: day passes are available for the seniors' centre parking lot for those participating in programs over 4 hours. The SAC front desk will administer parking passes that allow you to park beyond the limit. Return them to the desk at the end of the day.

Cafeteria: There is a cafeteria in the building that should be open on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-2pm. We also welcome you to bring goodies to share if you are so inclined--no obligation. We strive to have a friendly, inclusive, and sharing environment at our workshops!

 Cancellation Policy

 If you are unable to attend a workshop, refunds are not issued, but you may find another person to take your place. 

If the workshop is full and there is a willing replacement on the waitlist, you can cancel through Kolina Logan (kolinalogan@shaw.ca) in which case a refund will be issued.  

No refunds will be issued within 24 hours of the workshop start time.  NSAG reserves the right to cancel the course.
