Engage the imagination and awaken the surface of your paintings in this two-day workshop with Leanne M Christie. Explore how suggestion can captivate the viewer more than literal depiction, and how the careful repetition of colour, movement of the brush, and weaving of strokes can create dynamic surfaces that invite the eye to explore. Using a still life, participants will learn to balance pattern, activate imagination, and make compositional choices that keep paintings alive and engaging.

Artist Biography

Leanne M Christie bio photo

Leanne M Christie is a contemporary urban oil painter whose dynamic brushwork and intentional use of colour, distill the essence of familiar and unusual subjects. Her work invites viewers to reinterpret the shared experience of transitory urban spaces—those ever-changing backdrops where life’s stories unfold.

Based in Vancouver, Christie maintains a full-time studio practice, drawing inspiration from her daily commute between Coquitlam and the city. She intentionally immerses herself in the urban landscape, experiencing it through driving, cycling, walking, and public transit. These journeys fuel her masterful depictions of movement, memory, and place.
