Join Tim Bennison in a fun weekend workshop learning watercolour painting for beginner and intermediate artists. We will explore how to create bold, expressive and loose paintings, while still capturing the light and detail in a scene. Students in this highly interactive course will do several paintings and exercises learning about composition, dark and light values, wet-on-wet underpainting, colour principles, mark-making and masking. You can work from Tim’s suggested reference photos, or use your own images. You’ll finish the workshop with a new appreciation for this wonderful medium, and above all you’ll experience how to let the water flow and let the paint do the work!

Artist Biography
Tim has been painting watercolours for 40 years. Based in North Vancouver, his subjects include landscapes, architecture and portraits. He loves the challenge of watercolours, using the light and transparency of the medium to capture a moment in time.
Often depicting scenes from various locations on the North Shore and in BC, Tim’s paintings tell stories via the influence of people on the landscape.
Tim has had many exhibitions over the years, including the Harmony Arts Festival since 2015, North Van Art in the Garden 2017, West Van City Hall Art in the Hall 2018, North Van Arts Crawl since 2019, Hollyburn Eye Clinic Watercolour Visions of the North Shore 2019 and The West Fine Arts Show 2019. He had an ongoing exhibition (2020-2021) in the BlueShore Financial Arts in View program and show at the Kay Meek Centre in West Vancouver (2022). His paintings have been juried into many recent Federation of Canadian Artists Exhibitions at the FCA Gallery on Granville Island. His work has been featured in North Van Arts “You are Here” Calendars for 2020-2025 and in several issues of the Art of Watercolour magazine.
In the past few years, Tim has taught various on-line and in-person watercolour workshops with the Federation of Canadian Artists. He has also presented many demos to local art societies. This is an extremely rewarding experience for all participants, with learning happening for everyone, including Tim!
Tim welcomes commissions for both portraits and landscapes.
Tim is an Associate member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.
