Bring a photo of your favourite landscape; it is totally up to you which image you chose--just whatever moves you. I have a large selection of suitable images that I will share with you should you not have the ideal subject.
We'll spend the weekend exploring colour and composition, creating drama and interest - where either may be lacking - we'll explore colour translation and the importance of underpainting, and we'll create something extraordinary from the everyday and build a landscape masterpiece.
During this two day workshop we will also be covering a little art history (just the juicy stuff), basic principles of drawing and perspective, which products to use and which to leave on the shelf, tips and techniques used in building a professional quality painting using traditional master techniques - how those techniques can be successfully employed by you to build your contemporary masterpiece! . . .lastly - galleries and marketing and pricing your art (for those who are interested).
This workshop will be open to all levels, however it is more suited to intermediate and advanced painters. If you consider yourself a beginner, you will do fine, but some painting experience is necessary. During the workshop I will be doing lots of demos and as always, there will be plenty of hand-holding should you need it; nobody gets left behind!
Refreshments will be provided. Just bring your paints (acrylic or oil), a canvas formatted to fit your subject ( no larger than 24 x 30 please) and a good quality subject photo (a few choices would be good), your lunch and an open mind.

Artist Biography
Dene Croft, past president and senior member of the Federation of Canadian artists
“I’ve always believed that by the time you turn professional as an artist you are a thousand influences deep . . . my great influences are Tamara De Lempicka, Edward Hopper and Gustav Klimt and with endless respect and admiration for the ground that they broke for future painters, I pay homage to them daily in my own work, while constantly pressing forward with my own sense of aesthetic and storytelling.
Fifteen years ago I reached a pivotal point in my journey as a painter, and drawing on my interest in metal leaf and gilding I abandoned my high-key palette, maintained my interest in human studies, and became more focused on the creating of ambiance and atmosphere in my work and became less concerned with the drama and theater of my former body of art-deco inspired paintings. My interest in the human form however, has remained – my focus on the creation of “human studies” rather than the painting of “portraits”
Through the use of silver leaf and a limited palette, and with the assistance of my talented models, I attempt to project an ethereal grace in my work – dream like, narrative paintings that leave the viewer writing the end of the story.
Painting has become both a great passion and a blessed curse for me; I love what I do and I love to infuse my passion for my art in others and with that, my studio has become a hive of creativity in the mentoring of other artists, and marries my passion for what I do as an artist and my love of people through my teaching.”
