Supply List

I work with a limited palette in oils. I teach with the same colours both in acrylics and oils. The list below will give you a vast number of mixing possibilities with just seven warm and cool colours plus white.

Paints (oil or acrylics)

I use Gamblin oils mostly, but Opus brand in oils or acrylics are good value

  • Titanium White
  • Cadmium Yellow Lemon or Cadmium Yellow Light
  • Cadmium Yellow Medium
  • Cadmium Red Light
  • Alizarin Crimson (permanent)
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Transparent Earth Red (oils)
  • Transparent Red Iron Oxide (acrylics)
  • Viridian (the blue green in my palette, good for making darks with Alizarin)

Note: Bring the colours that you are used to working with. There is no need to go out and buy all of the above suggestions. If I were to limit my palette even further, it would be the following:

  • Titanium White
  • Cadmium Yellow Light or Hansa Yellow Light
  • Alizarin Permanent
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Transparent Earth Red
  • Small sketchbook
  • Double ended black Sharpie pen
  • Copic marker Neutral gray #4 (optional for value studies)
  • Small canvas panels primed (5” x 7” or 8” x 10”)
  • A canvas size of your choice for your own project (not larger than 16” x 20”)
  • Pad of gray palette paper, or a wooden, glass or plexiglass palette (for oils)
  • Pad of gray palette paper, or a Stay Wet palette (suggested for acrylic painters)

Brushes:

  • A variety of brushes, medium to large size, whatever you are used to.
  • I use a variety of hogs hair and synthetics, long flats and filberts.
  • Be sure to bring sizes from #2 to #10 if you have them
  • A palette knife ( I prefer Opus #6 - their Italian made ones)
  • Masking tape
  • Odourless mineral spirits (for oils)
  • Spill proof mineral spirits container (for oils)
  • Water container (for acrylics)
  • Paper towel and plastic bags for garbage
  • A cover to protect the table
  • Optional: an easel or a desktop easel

As a respected teacher and mentor, Sheree's enthusiastic energy brings inspiration to all those who come to work with her. "I believe in sharing my love and knowledge of painting in a relaxed and encouraging environment. I take great pleasure in guiding students through their own creative process, encouraging them to listen to their own voice. "My love of colour, of texture in fabrics, of shifting light in the landscape gives me the inspiration to put paint to canvas. Drawing from these elements, creating line, shape and form with strong design is what brings me to my easel each and every day.
