Course Description

Take it on the road or to the kitchen table.  Suzanne has traveled extensively and fills sketchbooks and journals with quick watercolour and pen impressions that capture the atmosphere and life of a particular time and place.  In this workshop she will work with students to encourage them to bring lightness to their paintings and their painting gear.  You will be invited to bring your curiosity and engagement with your subject to the paper with energy and bravado, whether traveling abroad or in your back yard.

Supply List

Note: You can use what you have; this list describes my travel essentials. Also, this is a specifically portable list. You may prefer to work with full sized materials in the workshop.

  • Sketchbook that can handle water (Holbein Multi drawing, moleskin watercolour) 9x11 or smaller
  • Additional pieces of watercolour paper, your choice
  • Pigment ink pens (i.e. micron pigma, staedtler drawing) size 05 or 08
  • Watercolours in small folding palette
  • Tissue (little Kleenex packets)
  • Water container, tiny
  • Small brushes, 07 is good
  • Bottle of water
  • Easel
  • Something to protect the table
  • Bag to carry everything
  • Other supplies that interest you, pencils, paper, etc.

I am very interested in Claybord panels by a company called Ampersand. They have a kaolin clay surface, very smooth like bristol. They are quite delightful for watercolour, available at Opus. You might like to give them a whirl.
