Artist Statement

From my beginnings in Art Education at UBC I have explored a variety of media--ceramics, textiles, painting and graphics. My artistic interest has been to experiment with incorporating what I have discovered in each medium into my paintings.

My early work focused on soft sculpture and fibre art and I have for several years now, returned to the idea of exploring these patterns and textures—in both choice of subject and use of media. I am particularly drawn to complementary colours displayed in leaves and plants that flourish in different parts of the world, zeroing in on interesting details, which become their own unique naturescapes.

I tend to choose subjects that might be described as “past prime”. Exploring this period of life’s cycle leads me to expose the hidden beauty of maturity.

Background

I am a longtime resident of the North Shore and enjoy hiking with my husband on the many trails abundant in our local area and elsewhere in the world. I joined the North Shore Artist’s Guild in September 2014 and have participated in many shows since then. I served on the NSAG board as Membership Chair, Vice President, President and Past President. I am also an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.
