After retiring from a long and varied teaching career which included art instruction both in school and for Artist's for Kids in North Vancouver, Frieda Ashworth has embarked on an art career of her own. To facilitate this she has taken instruction from a number of Federation artists including: Tom Huntley, Janice Robertson, Michael O'Toole. Rick McDiarmid, Bob McMurray, Sue Cowan, Brittani Faulkes as well as other non Federation artists. While at University she had the privilege of working with and was greatly influenced by watercolorist Sam Black.
Frieda's work reflects many influences from her studies at university and extensive travels throughout Europe and America. She enjoys painting a variety of subjects and works in acrylics, watercolour and pastels. She particularly enjoys commissions to paint portraits of adults, pets and children.
Frieda is presently also working in a more abstract format. It is her firm belief that extending one's art by pushing the parameters of creativity is the cornerstone of a successful and fulfilled artist.
Presently she is an active member of the West Vancouver Sketch Club and serves on the executive as workshop facilitator for the club. She is also an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.
Her work has been juried and shown through the North Shore Artist's Guild, in group shows at Capilano Mall, Park Royal Mall various cafes in West Vancouver and more recently at CTV Studios downtown. In local juryings she has recived a number of Honorable Mentions and Juror's Choice Awards. Her work is shown regularly at the Federation of Canadian Artist's Gallery on Granville Island.
She continues to receive commissions for portraits of both pets and people. She may be contacted at her web site for further information.
