Welcome to Riette's Corner of the Art World

Riette Gordon started off as a self-taught fine artist and eventually studied the Graphic Design and Illustration Program at Capilano University. She worked as a Creative Director/Graphic Designer for 20 years in her own Studio and now teaches children and adults drawing and painting in watercolour. Riette’s enthusiasm to share her love of art is contagious. She enjoys encouraging her students to discover their own creativity and to see beauty, form and light in everyday objects.

Riette works mainly in watercolour, a medium that highlights her dynamic sense of colour and her strong eye for design. She also does some work in oil, occasionally in acrylic, and her creativity spills over into home and garden.

Riette has studied with respected artists, such as Kiff Holland, Mike Svob, Frank Molnar, and Paul Deggan, but cites nature as her primary source of inspiration for her many landscapes, still life compositions and portraits.

“My eye is drawn to the design intrinsic in nature. Painting is my way of expressing my creativity, my joy and the peace of mind I experience when I am in the moment. I paint first and foremost for myself, but hope viewers of my work also experience the calm pleasure I try to capture.”

A member of the North Shore Arts Guild, Riette has shown her work throughout British Columbia. Riette lives and teaches in North Vancouver. Her Studio is open to all to view her work and can be contacted at todesign@shaw.ca
