At one time Mamamillicula was the winter home for the Kwakwaka'wakw in the Broughton Archipelago on BCs south coast. The large beams are from the longhouses which were disassembled each summer and floated to summer fishing camps on large carved canoes.
In the early 20th century this site included a school and hospital and a thriving village that managed to maintain secret potlatch ceremonies.
Wood frame houses were also built but were abandoned over time for a number of reasons.
Both types of housing are now returning to the land.
