The compelling urge to paint images has given me a lifelong mission to explore this incomparable art form and to work with dedication to develop skills which provide the satisfaction of doing what one loves to the best of one's ability.
My first large oil painting was carried out flat on the floor of a Montreal apartment. It looked like an exploding sun, rich reds, golds and indigos, a fitting beginning. Since that time when abstract expressionism was the prevalent influence, my tastes and focus turned toward the more traditional, academic methods known broadly as "The Old Masters" which I studied at McGill University, The Vancouver Academy of Art, Langara College and in countless workshops with modern masters. Altogether these led to my current style, contemporary realism.
Much of my plein air work is done in and around Whytecliff, Gleneagles and Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver. That scenery offers endless variety.
Over many years I have exhibited with Cityscape Art Gallery, The Seymour Art Gallery, The Silk Purse Gallery, The Ferry Building Gallery, The West Vancouver Memorial Library, Harmony Arts Festival, Kay Meek Centre and with The North Shore Artists Guild in a variety of venues.
Awards include: Three Jurors' Choice Awards and three Honorable Mention Awards from The North Shore Artists Guild, a People's Choice Award from the Silk Purse Arts Centre 2007 Show and a People's Choice award from the 2009 NSAG Spring Show at the West Vancouver Community Centre.
I became an Active Member of The Federation of Canadian Artists in 2004 and am a current and actively participating member of the North Shore Artists Guild.
