Welcome to my website!
I love art! I love making it, I love writing about it, and I love learning about it. I'm trying things out, experimenting with different media and styles. Absolutely enjoy my Visual Arts courses at UBC and have recently completed semesters in drawing, painting, and print-making. Several paintings have been juried into selected art shows, including Harmony Arts, the West Vancouver Memorial Library and the Kay Meek Centre. Recently, I have also been showing at the Brushstrokes Gallery in North Vancouver.
At the recent NSAG Spring Sale in May, I was happy that three out of four paintings submitted found new owners, putting me in an uneviable position of having to get busy painting for submissions to upcoming shows in June and July. That's my summer!
Thanks for your visit.
As an 'artist in the making' living in Metropolitan Vancouver, British Colombia, it is not difficult to be inspired by the incredible natural beauty and interesting places and people around me every day. In each painting, I seek to capture a moment in time, a certain spirit of the place or object, the interplay of light and shadow on colour. My hope is that the viewer is transported visually to their own memory of place and time.

Like many artist, Janna has been interested in art since early childhood. She began her career in art at the Montreal Museum of Fine Art, but ultimately graduated with scientific degrees at the Bachelor and Masters level in physical geography (Concordia) and forestry (Munich and the University of British Columbia). It is only in the past few years that she has finally had the time to return to her artistic side.
Her formal art training began with a watercolour workshop with Paul Chezik. Finally hooked on art, she completed the Fine Art Techniques program at Emily Carr University and is now enrolled in the Visual Arts Department at the University of British Columbia. She still works in Vancouver full-time with the federal government.
She has sold her work at the Spring Art Sales in West Vancouver, at the Annual Fine Art Sales in North Vancouver and to private collectors in Canada and the United States. Her work has been consistently been juried into the West Vancouver Harmony Arts Festival, into the Visual Arts Students Association (VASA) MESH exhibits and into the West Vancouver Memorial Library and Kay Meek Centre Shows.
In her art studies, Janna has worked primarily in oil, acrylics and watercolour. Her work is characterized by strong emphasis on light, shadow, and most of all, color. She has painted in the representational style, with the aim to present as few hurdles as possible between the viewer, the painting, and herself. But, commissioned work and studies at UBC have challenged her to explore abstractions. These works represent new creative ventures into the realm of colour, design, and composition. With no map and no destination the journey is a challenge but exhilarating.
