Gary W. Eder
"Travelling, Skiing and painting" is how I describe the blissful arrangement of my daily life in retirement. Not a bad way to spend the years I have earned through hard work and commited practice.
I have studied at the Vancouver Art School and Capilano College and I am a member of the North Shore Photographic Society, North Vancouver Arts Guild, the Canadian Photo Club and the North Vancouver Arts Council. For most of my career in Canada I operated an interior design and painting company. When not decorating homes and offices, I painted portraits, landscapes and still life, collecting awards for my work from all over Canada and Europe.. I have painted in oils for many years but lately I have turned to watercolours and acrylics in a commitment to avoid the use of solvents. "I had to get away from turpentine!"
I have been an avid photographer for the last 15 years, I have offered hands-on workshops to budding photographers on how to capture snow, flora and fauna on film. As a photography club member, I have taken great pride in acting as a photo judge and selecting other photographer's work to enter into Canadian competitions. I am influenced by watercolour painters Kiff Holland and Paul Degen. I currently paint landscapes, harbours and ships, many taken from my own photographs.
