"Wild Rose" by Catherine Janusz

I am a Warsawian of Warsaw (Poland)  where I was born, spent my childhood and youth.  My passion for  painting came at a very early age. In fact I was probably born with a brush in my hand. I taught myself to paint, but I was most likely influenced by my uncle and his paintings. His name was Marian Szpakowski,  a well known polish painter;    an abstractionist  in his later years.  He was my best uncle,  but  at the  same time my most severe critic.  However, I  never  really  appreciated  his opinions until later.

I have never attended an Art School, instead I have graduated with an accounting degree.  But I would always come back to my drawings and was later influenced by Claude Monet - the greatest painter who ever lived; the Father of Impressionism.

I have been lucky enough to travel throughout Europe and spent one really charming year in Spain, where there was always something new to see in my spare time. I tried to capture what I saw, and record it in my memory. The impressions of light and colors that I gained there were, to some extent, put aside for later.

About 20 years ago my husband and I settled in Canada, where our daughter was born.    I must admit starting a new life in a new country is not the greatest thing for an artist. It took me awhile to realize what I wanted to do with my life. I am now an active member of North Shore Artists' Guild, Federation of Canadian Artists and am finally on the right track. About two years ago I started to paint seriously mostly in acrylics, but water colours, mixed media, and abstract are not strange to me either.  There is no need to say how much my painting has improved. The progress that I have made has been rapid and even I have been amazed with it.

I am a shy optimist from nature, but for a change I will not be shy to say, that I am  dreaming of a future where I am a successful painter who everyone knows, and wants to have a piece of my work at home.  I hope you like my sense of humor, only I was not kidding!
